日本海側は大雪
日本での放送日の2月8日は、日本各地、とくに日本海側では大雪となりました。新潟市在住のYoshiさんから、すっぽり雪におおわれた裏庭の写真が届きました。56年ぶりの大雪で昨晩からの積雪が56cm。Champaigmも今週は、氷点下の日が続きそうですね。
Parkland Collegeの皆さんのトークの熱量で温まる
今週は、Parkland Collegeの皆さんのトークの後半、Adrianさん、Chaseさん、McChieleyさんの出演です。配信直後にNagoyaのMichiyoさんから、「若い声を聴いているだけで少し暖かくなります。内容も要領良く説明してくださって、ありがとうございました。寒くて縮こまっているのが、ちょっと元気が出そう」とメッセージをいただきました。英語のトークをRyutaさんが日本語に翻訳、安心して聞いてください。

Adrian Zzimbe さんの自己紹介
Hi, my name is Adrian, and I’m currently a sophomore at Parkland College, where I’m majoring in biology. I’m passionate about health and nutrition, and I hope to work in a field that focuses on sustainable solutions to improve people’s well-being. I had the chance to visit Japan before, and it was an unforgettable experience that sparked my interest in learning more about the culture, especially Japanese tea culture and the connection between tradition and modern life. This study abroad program excites me because it’s an opportunity to dive deeper into Japanese culture and experience Taiwan for the first time. I’m looking forward to broadening my perspective, making new connections, and learning from these unique cultural experiences. – Adrian
Adrian（エイドリアン）さんはParkland Collegeの2年生で、現在は生物学を専攻しています。前に一度、日本に滞在したことがあり、今回は、ストリートフード（屋台や露店で売られている食べ物）やラーメン店の建築、自動販売機などに興味がある（もう一度見てみたい）と話してくれました。
また、漢方にも興味があるとのこと。出身地のアフリカ（ウガンダ出身とのことです）にも、植物などを使う、似たような療法があるそうですが、それらとの違いなどを学びたいと考えているようです。日本では、漢方薬として意識的に服用するほかに、「ショウガで体を温める」など、日々の（食）生活の中にも漢方由来と思われる知識が取り入れられていることがありますね、という話をMugikoさんとRyutaがコメントしています。
Part2, Chaseさん、留学生対応から多文化交流を学ぶ、ゲームから神道に関心
Chase Beltさんの自己紹介
My name is Chase Belt, and I am currently a sophomore at Parkland College. I am a physics major with an interest in becoming a professor at a college in the future. I currently work in the admissions department of Parkland College, and I enjoy working with students that have very different backgrounds and cultures than I. I believe learning about all these cultures will help me not only be a better professor in the future, but also a better person in general. I have always had a particular interest in east Asia cultures, so when the opportunity to study abroad in Japan arose, I took it. I am hoping that this trip will allow me to better help Japanese students; both with my current job and future career advances. I also have a particular interest in Shintoism. I have read stories of the kami throughout my life and have a deep respect for the religion. One thing that I have always wanted to do was visit a Shinto Shrine. This will give me that opportunity and that is a dream come true. – Chase
Chase（チェイス）さんもParkland Collegeの2年生です。物理学を専攻していて、将来は、編入学、大学院進学を経て、大学で物理学を教えたいと考えています。また、Parkland Collegeの事務部局でパートタイムで働いてもいます。このパートタイムの仕事では海外からの学生の入学に関する業務に携わることが多く、さまざまな文化的背景を持つ人たちと交流し、いろいろな文化を学ぶことを楽しんでいるようです。
日本文化としては、特に「神道」に興味があるとのことですが、これは、日本を含む世界各地の神話に登場する神様たちを操作してバトルするコンピュータゲームをプレイしたことがきっかけだったということでした。神道の神々の中には印象的なビジュアルを持つ神様もいるので、そのようなゲームの題材にも取り上げられやすいのかもしれないですね。
（Chaseさんの選曲でMiracle of SoundのValhalla Callingをかけましたが、「ヴァルハラ」は北欧神話のオーディンという神が住む館の名前ですね。そのあたりも意識して選曲してくださったのかもしれません。）
Part3, McChileyさん、ランドスケープデザイン、サステナビリティを専門
McChieley Geilerさんの自己紹介
Hello, my name is McChieley Geiler, and I am a first year at Parkland College. I am currently working toward a General Associate in Science, with plans to transfer to my local university. While there are a couple of areas I’m interested in, they all have a unifying theme of sustainability and satisfying the needs of both nature and modern human life, something I think there are many great examples of in Japan. In fact, one of the programs I’m interested in at my local university has a study abroad program dedicated to sustainable fashion companies! It would be amazing if I got to go twice, wouldn’t it? Anyway, I’ve been interested in lots of different aspects of Japanese culture since I was a kid, especially manga, anime, and street fashion. I’m really excited to get the opportunity to go! – McChieley
McChieley（マッカイリー）さんはParkland Collegeの1年生で、現在は、地元の4年制大学への編入を目指して教養学の専攻に所属しています。サステナブル・デザインやランドスケープ・アーキテクチャーなどに興味があるそうですが、日本については、特に、サステナブル・ファッション（持続可能なファッション）に注目しているとのことでした。
McChielyさんによると、日本には持続可能なファッションに取り組んでいる企業がいくつかあり、国際的なドキュメンタリーに取り上げられたりもしているそうです。MugikoさんとRyutaのコメントでは、「現在の学生世代に親の世代のファッションが再度流行していること」（世代を超えた服のリユースなのでサステナブルかもしれない）などについて話しています。
（これはおそらく偶然ですが、McChielyさんが曲を選んでくださったthe pillowsは2月1日で解散したことが先日発表されました。）
神社のお守りの効力も持続可能だったらいいのになあ、と思うのですが。Parkland Collegeの皆さんのトークへのコメント、お待ちしております。
